Have you ever read a book in a foreign language? It must have been difficult at first. If you compare this with the time when you read your first book in your mother tongue, you'll know how entirely different it was.
Because someone -probably your mother- read it for you. It's too bad we don't have a foreigner who could help us reading with the patience of a mother. But we have a great replacement and it's called audio book.
As the name suggests these are books you can listen to. A native speaker reads the story for you so you have the book presented in perfect voice acting. The greatness behind this concept is that you can listen to whole books recorded on CDs, tapes or audio files, even if you are not able to read the book yourself. Because you don't have it or can't read it.
Try not to stop very often to look up unknown words. Writers have their own style and vocabulary so until you reach the end you'll have heard many of the words and expressions over and over again in slightly different context. This is great because you can guess the meaning and are rewarded with a confirmation next time you hear it, or you are given another chance to guess. This is probably the best way to obtain new knowledge.
You can listen to audio books any time: while driving to work, doing house chores or before sleeping. Remember that you will progress faster if you use as many oppotunities as you can to be in contact with the language.
