Decrease your speed

Do you have to restart your sentences too often? Do you feel that you get overwhelmed when you are talking? You want to sound like a native speaker but get confused in the middle of a sentence? Maybe you should just decrease your speed.
Many foreign language students have this illusion: if they speak fast they sound more fluent and more natural. This is only true if you have the necessary experience in the target language. You need enough vocabulary and have to have practiced it a lot.
There are even native speakers who speak slower, so it doesn't really matter whether you can speak very fast. If you have not reached a certain level in your foreign language study yet, you should decrease your speed so that you feel comfortable and have more time to think about what you are going to say.
